About Singlehurst C.C.

Singlehurst C.C. was founded in 1950 when a Mr Keith Challinor suggested to some of his co-workers at R. Singlehurst & Co., a firm of shipping merchants, that perhaps they might form a cricket team. The Club's first year was spent practicing with borrowed equipment in Newsham Park. The Club's first President was a Mr Frank Higson, Chairman of the Singlehurst Company. Records show that the Club, while still playing in only friendly matches, was very well established and so took the step of renting their first proper pitch on the Harthill Estate in 1953. There followed a spell at Clarke Gardens before the Club moved to the Simpson Ground in the late 1950's. In 1957, with no employees of the Company now playing for the Club, formal ties with the Company were severed, though both parties were happy that the Club retain the name, which we have been proud to do.

The Club for many years played competitive cricket in the Liverpool Business Houses League. Whilst much of the cricket was played in the higher divisions of the League, our most successful year was 1975 when the Club won the LBHSA Cup.

Singlehurst then went on to play in the West Lancashire Cricket League and were proud winners of the 2nd Division Championship in our first season in 1996. In the 2004 season the Club enjoyed its most successful season winning both the West Lancashire Cricket League and The Hanson Cup.

Today, Singlehurst play their cricket at Merseyside Commonwealth Conference CC, Mossley Hill, having moved there for the 2008 season, and compete in the Merseyside Cricket Competition. Indeed, since joining in 2004, Singlehurst have won successive promotions and have won the prestigious Phil Daniels Cup in 2005. The 2006 season saw Singlehurst promoted to the 1st Division of the Merseyside Cricket Competition as Champions of Division 2.
